What is Livescan fingerprinting?
How does Livescan fingerprinting differ from the traditional ink-and-roll method?
Livescan fingerprinting eliminates the need for ink and cards. Instead, fingerprints are electronically captured by rolling them across a glass plate and scanning them. This method is faster, cleaner, and more accurate compared to the old ink-and-roll method.
Why is Livescan fingerprinting preferred over the traditional method?
Livescan fingerprinting offers several advantages over the traditional method. It provides faster results, produces cleaner images, and offers higher accuracy. Additionally, it eliminates the mess associated with ink and cards, making the process more convenient for both the applicant and the agency processing the fingerprints.
Can Livescan fingerprinting handle difficult-to-read fingerprints?
Yes, Livescan fingerprinting can handle difficult-to-read fingerprints. Certain factors such as age, specific types of work like construction, or exposure to various chemicals can make fingerprints harder to read. However, state-of-the-art equipment and highly trained staff ensure the quality of fingerprint images is maximized, reducing the likelihood of illegible fingerprints and minimizing overall application processing time.
What happens after the Livescan fingerprints are captured?
Once the Livescan fingerprints are captured, they are submitted to the specific state agency responsible for processing fingerprint records. These agencies use the captured images to conduct background checks, verify identities, or perform other necessary procedures in accordance with their respective regulations and requirements.
What documents do I need to present upon arrival at the livescan office?
A copy of your valid State identification, such as a driver’s license, US Passport, or State issued ID is required.
What is an ORI Number and why do I need to know it?
An ORI (Originating Agency Identifier) Number is a nine-character number assigned to the agency you are coming from, which is requesting the background check. You need to know it because it helps in identifying and processing your background check request accurately.
When and how will the operator verify the ORI Number and Agency Authorization Number?
The operator will verify this information prior to capturing your fingerprints at the livescan office. They will ensure that the provided ORI Number and Agency Authorization Number are correct and match the required criteria.
